About The Artist
Karli Mogen
Mixed Media Artist, Designer & Illustrator
I am a mixed media artist, designer, and illustrator from south Florida skilled in a variety of techniques and media, including traditional and digital art processes. My work has been showcased in several exhibitions in the USA, where I attended the University of Florida for my Bachelor's in Fine Art, and the UK, where I earned my Master's degree in Medical Art at the University of Dundee in Scotland.

My interests vary greatly, which is reflected in the art I produce. I am passionate about the process of creating. Sometimes that manifests as intense cosmic art pieces, while other times, the result is just a fun character. My most consistent body of work is composed of scenes juxtaposing cosmic imagery and human anatomy. I take inspiration from a bunch of sources, including biology, anatomy, pathology, psychology, philosophy, sociology, music, poetry, mental health, mythology, and spirituality, just to name a few.
The core of why I make art is as an expressive outlet, and to connect with others. I've realized recently that it has been the way I cope with whatever is happening around me or within me that I find difficult to process, from chronic pain, to anxiety and environmental stressors. In high school, when my back issues first arose, I started depicting human anatomy and somewhat unsettling images of pain. Looking back, I think this was to try to express and release my own pain. Now, the images have evolved to include cosmic motifs and often botanical aspects, shifting the tone into a more optimistic light. Pain is a universal aspect of the human experience. It is something that connects us all, and, if nothing else, it serves to form stronger bonds of connection among individuals. It allows complete strangers to share their pain with each other, even if they share nothing else.

Through my anatomy-based work, I draw attention to the unseen world of the internal body, a world that lives in each and every one of us, yet so easily gets overlooked. By drawing attention to this universal yet unseen aspect the human experience, I am shedding a light on the often invisible human experience of pain, both physical and emotional.
